This series consists of records documenting the attempt by the Lac Vieux Desert Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians to acquire land in Erie County. The group, located in Watersmeet Township of southeastern Gogebic County, in the western part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, wished to establish a tobacco manufacturing facility and retail shop and an arts and crafts store in Huron Township. The records include a plan by the Lac Vieux Desert Band outlining the proposed facilities, a copy of the cultural resource survey performed on the property, proposed jurisdictional agreement between the Lac Vieux Desert Band and Huron Township, and correspondence relating to the case.
